Public school education in America has undergone a radical shift in recent years. While schools were once seen as neutral spaces for knowledge transmission, they have increasingly become platforms for advancing ideological narratives. For Christian families, this reality presents both a challenge and a call to respond with discernment, preparation, and biblical conviction.
In this post, we’ll explore the growing presence of ideological curriculum in public schools, what it means for your family, and how homeschooling offers a powerful alternative rooted in truth.
From Academics to Activism: The Shift in Classroom Content
Across many U.S. states, public schools are embedding progressive ideologies within their curriculum frameworks. This includes themes related to sexuality, gender identity, race, political activism, and redefined historical narratives. While such content is often framed as promoting inclusion or equity, it can be deeply out of step with biblical truth.
Example: In Montgomery County, Maryland, a new policy requires all K-5 students to engage with LGBTQ-inclusive storybooks. Parents are not permitted to opt their children out of this material—a move that has sparked widespread legal battles.
“We are not anti-anyone,” said one Christian parent in the lawsuit. “We simply want to preserve our role as primary educators when it comes to values.”
Furthermore, the rise of social-emotional learning (SEL) programs has led to increased emphasis on identity affirmation and moral relativism—often without parental knowledge.

The Disappearance of Parental Authority
Policies in several school districts now instruct staff to withhold information from parents regarding a student’s self-declared gender identity, preferred pronouns, or counseling conversations. While these rules are often framed as protective, they are eroding the biblical structure of family authority.
In Katy, Texas, the school board adopted a policy that allows students to request gender support plans without parental consent. This decision prompted a federal civil rights investigation.

Scripture to Remember: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” (Ephesians 6:1)
These actions represent a broader trend of minimizing parental input in areas of moral, ethical, and spiritual development.
A Biblical Worldview vs. Secular Humanism
Much of the ideological curriculum introduced in public schools today reflects a worldview grounded in secular humanism. This philosophy elevates self-definition, moral subjectivity, and cultural relativism—values that directly contradict biblical principles of absolute truth and God-given identity.
By contrast, Christian education is built on the unchanging Word of God:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
The tension between these two worldviews is not new, but it is intensifying. Parents must be aware that their children are not simply learning math and science—they are also being taught what to believe about human nature, morality, and justice.
Why Christian Families Are Choosing to Homeschool
The rise of ideological curriculum has become one of the top motivators for Christian parents choosing to homeschool. Families are looking for:
- Truth-based instruction that aligns with Scripture
- Curriculum transparency and parental control
- Protection from spiritual confusion at a developmental stage
